Stress

Stress may relate to physical, emotional or mental pressure, but can mean different things to different people.

Stress affects virtually everyone at some time in his or her life. People can get stressed in all sorts of situations, whether at school, home, work, in their car or even at the supermarket!

Sometimes a little stress can be good. It helps us to be ‘keyed up’ and improves our overall performance - think of an actor waiting for a cue or an athlete at the starting line. But our response to the stresses of life is part of our personality.

Some people have a low tolerance and even small anxieties can impair their performance. Others thrive on it and work better under pressure - such as preparing for school examinations!

However, too much stress can be bad for us. Particularly if it continues for a long time.

Stress can be caused by things that are beyond your control.

Stress is not a sign of weakness.

Sometimes talking the situation over with someone can help.
